Managing Risks of Simultaneous Operations.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Are you prepared for potential emergencies?  How can you effectively prepare for emergencies?

The first step is to ensure that you have identified all of the potential emergency situations - HOW?  Via Risk Assessment, typically your potential emergencies are low probability - high consequence events.  Once you have identified these events, resources required to manage the event need to be identified.

Now, we have our emergency, and identified resources.  The next step is to determine how to respond to the emergency, this includes roles and responsibilities of involved personnel.

How do we know that this will be effective?  You need to practice the emergency scenario; from this you will identify opportunities for improvement.  Training in Emergency Response is the key to minimising risks to:  Business, Health, Safety, Environment and Communities.

LEGAL COMPLIANCE

Are you wondering how you can ensure that you are complying with your Legal Obligations?  Well there is only one answer - Audit.

A Legal Compliance Audit will allow you to identify gaps within your Management System.  Following the audit you will be able to implement action plans to rectify non-conformances.

INCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Why do we investigate incidents?

The philosophy behind investigating incidents is to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions to ensure the incidents don't reoccur.

Following the implementation of actions, there is a further step other than closing the incident off.

The 'verification' process is one of the most crucial steps in incident investigation.  The verification process closes the loop; it allows you to ensure the following:

  • action has not introduced additional risks or hazards;
  • affected personnel have been trained in the corrective and preventative action; and
  • action has addressed the root cause.
